Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:25 KJV
The Public gathering of Christ's bride is a matter of obedience to Christ. It is a duty for Christians to obey. (Heb.10:24-25)
Meeting all together as a body is necessary for Christian growth. (1 Cor. 12)
The concept of “church” in the New Testament is built on gathering together. The word translated “church” literally means “called out assembly”.
Our obedience to the “one another” commands of Scripture requires our gathering with other believers. (eg. 2 Cor. 13:11,1 Cor. 12:25)
Baptism and the Lord's Supper are practiced in the local church gathering (Eph. 4:4-6,1 Cor.11:33)
Loving your neighbor according to the Bible is the second great commandment after the command to love God. (Matt.22:36-39) We get the order wrong when we emphasize the second at the expense of the first.
The witness of the Church is to the revelation of God's glory through His Word, His works, and ultimately His Son Jesus Christ and the Gospel. (Heb. 1:1-5) We are not fulfilling our role as witnesses if we are more concerned about what the world thinks of us, than about "shewing forth the praises of him who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Pet. 2:9)
As Christians, we cannot give to Caesar that which belongs to God. (Matt. 22:21)
